More Than A Gym - One Size Does Not Fit All

When you sign up for an Active Luton membership, you’re not just signing up to a gym, a fitness class or a lane swim.

At Active Luton, we put community first.

The moment you sign up, our gym team is always there for you. You can speak to us at any time. Whether you are looking for advice, help or the latest update, we are here for you.

All of our friendly gym instructors are exercise referral trained and can tailor programmes and support for every individual. We understand that the same exercise programme does not fit all. That’s why our gym instructors work with clients to help manage chronic illnesses and medical conditions. Our fitness professionals can help gym members with physical health conditions including arthritis, osteoporosis, joint replacement surgery, simple mechanical back pain, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, obesity, and diabetes. They can also help those with mental health conditions.

Whether you’re living with a long term health condition, recovering from an injury, training for an event, or starting exercise for the first time, our team can support and guide you, creating a programme that is unique to you.

Our Exercise Referral programme means that you can feel safe and motivated to be the best version of you.

We met with Jayshee, who joined our Exercise Referral programme, “I went to see a Diabetic Nurse who referred me to the Desmond Programme, which helps people with type 2 diabetes understand and learn more about the condition, including how to manage diabetic-related changes. They then referred me to Total Wellbeing Luton, who were incredibly helpful and put me on the Exercise Referral programme.

I was a bit hesitant at first as I have always felt that the gym is a daunting environment. For someone who has never been to a gym before, Inspire: Luton Sports Village made me feel very welcome. It’s a great community gym where no one judges you.

My health specialist Emma has also been a great help offering advice on other ways to help manage my diabetes by things to do at home too.

I now really enjoy coming to the gym and look forward to it! So much so that my husband and I regularly visit Inspire as it makes us feel great.

I have seen a difference already, with both my weight and my blood sugars and I cannot wait to see how I progress further down the line.”

Regular exercise can reduce your risk of chronic illnesses, such as coronary heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and cancer and lower your risk of early death by up to 30%, the NHS states.

Also, research shows that physical activity can also boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy and reduce your risk of stress, clinical depression, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease.

Being physically active can help you lead a healthier and happier life. At Active Luton, we make exercise accessible to all; that’s why our Exercise Referral programme is so popular. We make sure you feel at ease, whilst you can be the best version of yourself.

If you’d like to make changes to your activity levels with professional guidance, exercise referral is just the thing for you.

Our 12-week Exercise Referral programme consists of gym-based activity supported by an Exercise Specialist, who will tailor physical activities to your individual needs and ability. You can access these sessions through a referral from a Luton health professional and you must be aged 16 years or over.

This programme is available across Active Luton's centres at Inspire: Luton Sports Village, Lewsey Sports Park and Lea Manor Recreation Centre.

Feel healthy and happy today, speak to us when you sign up for an Active Luton membership or let us know you’re interested during your gym induction.
