Winter Family Fun: Get Active & Stay Connected This Season

winter-family-fun-get-active-stay-connected-this-season

As the days get shorter and the weather cooler, it can be all too easy for families to spend more time indoors and on screens. But this winter, why not swap scrolling for smiling, and screens for shared experiences? At Active Luton, we believe that staying active together as a family is one of the best ways to boost both physical and mental wellbeing and to make memories that last.

From splashing in the pool to kicking a football on the green, or simply laughing together during a play session, being active together isn’t just good for your body - it’s nourishment for your mind and soul too.

Celebrating Universal Children’s Day – 20 November

Every year on 20th November, the world comes together to celebrate Universal Children’s Day - a special day led by UNICEF that champions children’s rights, wellbeing, and happiness.

It’s a wonderful reminder that childhood should be filled with play, discovery, and time spent with loved ones. What better way to mark the occasion than by making active family time a priority?

Outdoor Family Fun at Stockwood Park

Wrap up warm and head to Stockwood Park Golf Centre for a day of family fun. Try FootGolf - the perfect mix of football and golf that’s guaranteed to spark some friendly competition and lots of laughter while enjoying some fresh air.

If you’d like to refine your swing or introduce your children to a new sport, check out the Driving Range or book beginners golf lessons with one of our experienced coaches.

Splash, Giggle and Grow

Swimming is one of the best all-round activities for families, helping to build strength, confidence, and coordination.

Aqua Babies and Aqua Tots sessions are a gentle, joyful way to introduce your little ones to the water and help them feel comfortable and confident as they splash and play – please note parents must be able to swim to join these sessions. For older children, our Fun Time Splash sessions are full of excitement, with floats, games, and laughter guaranteed.

For Parents on the Move

We know it can be hard for new parents to find time to exercise - that’s why Buggy Fitness at Stockwood Park Athletics Centre is such a fantastic option. These outdoor sessions combine a full-body workout with the opportunity to meet other parents - and your baby gets to come along too!

Little Movers and Big Smiles

Early movement is key to children’s healthy development, and our Mini Nastics sessions at Inspire: Luton Sports Village are designed to help little ones explore movement, balance, and coordination in a fun, safe environment. Expect lots of giggles, climbing, jumping and rolling - the perfect introduction to gymnastics-inspired play (coming soon to Lea Manor Recreation Centre too!).

Play, Learn and Laugh with Luton Libraries

Our friends at Luton Libraries run a fantastic range of free and friendly sessions for families. Join Happy Baby Groups for songs, stories, and sensory play for the tiniest members of your family, or try Real Play sessions designed to get children moving while developing imagination. If you’re looking for something the whole family can get involved in, Family Craft Time could be just the creative fun you need.

Game On – Hire a Court

Looking for something competitive? Gather your family and friends and hire a court or sports hall for a game of badminton, basketball, or five-a-side football. It’s fun, affordable, and a brilliant way to burn off some energy together - especially on those chilly winter days.

Coming Soon: Soft Play Opening this December!

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new Soft Play facility The Giggles, opening in December. Designed for adventure and imagination, it’ll be a bright, safe, clean and exciting space for children to explore, climb and play - the perfect winter activity for families looking to keep their little ones active and entertained indoors.

Why Active Families Are Happier Families

Staying active as a family isn’t just about exercise - it’s about connection. When you move together, you laugh together, communicate more, and strengthen emotional bonds.

Being active helps:

· Boost physical fitness and motor skills.

· Support mental wellbeing by reducing stress and anxiety.

· Improve focus, confidence, and sleep.

· Encourage positive lifelong habits around health and activity.

· Build a sense of togetherness that strengthens family relationships.

Even small changes - like a walk in the park, a game of catch, or dancing in the living room - can make a dramatic difference to your family’s wellbeing.

Make This Winter One to Remember

So this winter, wrap up warm, put the phones away, and discover the joy of moving together. Whether it’s splashing, swinging, scoring, or simply laughing as a family, Active Luton has everything you need to make this season fun, healthy, and full of connection.
