Active Luton Develops Community Health Offer at Lewsey Sports Park

Thursday, 29 November 2018

Active Luton has further enhanced the facilities at Lewsey Sports Park with the development of a new suite of five consultation rooms for use by Total Wellbeing Luton for its emotional and healthy lifestyles services and by Optimum Physiotherapy for both NHS referrals and private patients.

The treatment rooms provide much-needed additional capacity for Optimum Physiotherapy and allow the Total Wellbeing service to provide community-based consultations for the new integrated wellbeing service in the Lewsey Farm community which includes some areas which feature in the top 10-20 per cent most deprived nationally.

Lewsey Sports Park already has a thriving offer of healthy lifestyles programmes as part of Total Wellbeing Luton using the inclusive gym and other areas of the Sports Park. There are well established programmes for long-term conditions helping people who have had a heart attack, are living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) and cancer as well as people on exercise referral programmes and those with low level emotional health problems via Power our Minds and Mindful U.

Helen Barnett, Chief Executive of Active Luton, comments:

“This development demonstrates our commitment to providing a holistic, community offer at Lewsey Sports Park in pursuit of our mission to improve the health and wellbeing of Luton. The consultation rooms taken by Total Wellbeing Luton will mean much easier access for local residents to emotional and healthy lifestyles programmes as part of the integrated health and wellbeing offer which we are proud to be part of.”

Lewsey Sports Park has already benefitted from over £200k worth of development in the past 18 months including a new fitness studio and refurbishment of the spinning studio – both with interactive lighting - and a complete re-fit of the 55-station gym including all-new, inclusive cardiovascular equipment with Halo Fitness app connectivity and a state-of-the-art functional training area. There is also a boxing ring and training area and squash courts. Members of the centre also benefit from use of the 25-m adjacent swimming pool with flume slide for family sessions and a thriving children’s swimming lesson programme and a varied pool session offer.
