First Aid at Work Refresher Course - Level 3 Award (QCF)

Course Details

Re Qualification Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (QCF). This course has been approved by Ofqual as complying with the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Course Aim

This is a refresher course aimed at up-skilling and equipping candidates with the skills and knowledge required to carry out first aid within the workplace.
Candidates will review the training completed on their First Aid at Work course.

Course Format

2 days (minimum of 12 contact hours) that will be delivered in a variety of formats.

Who should do the course

Anyone holding a valid First Aid at Work qualification within their designated workplace whose qualification is due to expire.
Note: Candidates existing First Aid at Work Qualification must still be valid at commencement of the course.


Ongoing assessment throughout the course to include:
Demonstration of Casualty Management
Demonstration of basic life support (CPR)
Demonstration of ability to control bleeding
Treatment of specific medical conditions
Oral questions designed to test underpinning knowledge

Course Content

Theory to include

The Aims of First Aid
Action in an Emergency
Management of an Unconscious Casualty
Adult resuscitation (Basic Life Support)
Control of Bleeding
Burns and Scalds
Fractures, Dislocation, Sprains
Eye Injuries
Recognition and Treatment of Illnesses
Transportation of Casualties
Record Keeping and First Aid Boxes

Practical to include

Management of an Unconscious Casualty
Basic Life Support - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Control of Bleeding - including basic bandaging techniques
Management of choking
Management of fractures

Entry Requirements

Candidates must hold a valid First Aid at Work Qualification
Must be able to undertake practical activity involving kneeling and lying down.

All Active Luton courses are delivered and assessed in English. Tutors must be convinced that you have sufficient fluency in written and spoken English to cope with your course from the start.

Certification Qualification

Awarding body: IQL - RLSS UK

Validity Period

36 months.

The HSE recommend that all First Aiders attend annual refresher training to help reduce the impact of 'first aid skills fade’.
