Active Luton is required [by law] to protect the public funds it administers. It may share information provided to it with other bodies responsible for; auditing, or administering public funds, or where undertaking a public function, in order to prevent and detect fraud.

The Cabinet Office is responsible for carrying out data matching exercises.

Data matching involves comparing computer records held by one body against other computer records held by the same or another body to see how far they match. This is usually personal information. Computerised data matching allows potentially fraudulent claims and payments to be identified. Where a match is found it indicates that there is an inconsistency which requires further investigation. No assumption can be made as to whether there is fraud, error or other explanation until an investigation is carried out.

Active Luton participates in the Cabinet Office’s National Fraud Initiative: a data matching exercise to assist in the prevention and detection of fraud. We are required to provide particular sets of data to the Minister for the Cabinet Office for matching for each exercise, as detailed here.

The use of data by the Cabinet Office in a data matching exercise is carried out with statutory authority under Part 6 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014. It does not require the consent of the individuals concerned under the Data Protection Act 1998.

Data matching by the Cabinet Office is subject to a Code of Practice.

Receptionist - Inspire Luton Sports Village 

Part Time – Evenings & Weekends 3:30pm to 10:00pm 

£7.90 per hour 

You will join our busy team, providing first point of contact for customers receiving bookings and answering enquiries face to face and over the telephone. Experience in these areas is therefore essential, together with customer care, tact and diplomacy.  You will operate cash registers, computerised and manual bookings, point of sale systems and be required to balance and record cash receipts. 

You must have the ability to manage periods of heavy and conflicting workload demands and be customer focused in your approach to work.

Accounts Payable Officer

Wigmore Hall

Full Time 37 hours per week Monday - Friday (£21,962 per annum)

The Active Luton Finance team has an opportunity for an experienced Accounts Payable Officer to join the team which provides a support service for colleagues across the organisation.

Your main duties will include:

  • Accounts payable function including assessing & processing of invoices, meeting creditors payments terms and checking of VAT
  • Supplier queries written and verbal in respect of invoices
  • Manage two company ledgers
  • Support junior members of the Team in processing invoices
  • Process invoices and manage queries in liaison with Budget holders
  • Manage an ongoing review of payment terms with suppliers
  • Liaise with large supplier to ensure accurate billing – establish relationships with key supplier contacts
  • Monthly reconciliation of supplier statements
  • Prepare and generate monthly BACS runs
  • Ensure all legislation and government policy is adhered to
  • Be able to support the Finance and Resources Director on a full systems and process review
  • Continual data cleansing of system
  • Develop and improve supplier and payment control processes
  • Work on implementation of an automatic Purchase order system, developing controls within the process
  • Other Finance work as required to support a busy finance team

Sports Coach (Health)Health & Wellbeing Team

Full time – 37 hrs per week (occasional evenings and weekends)

Due to the growth in the work of the Health & Wellbeing team, particularly in the development of our health referral services, there is an opportunity for a motivated, reliable and innovative individual with appropriate qualifications, skills and experience to assist in the management and development of the Health & Wellbeing team and its activities. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver activities for a significant period of their working week; however they will also take on additional areas of responsibility including the coordination and management of health related programmes. 

The successful candidate will lead the planning, development and delivery of an inclusive range of high quality health and fitness activity sessions, in particular those associated with, Exercise Referrals, Long Term Conditions such as COPD, Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease within Active Luton facilities and other community settings.

Casual Activity Assistant

L1B £7.66 per hour

You will be involved in promoting Active Luton’s Recreation Centres in a multicultural environment and helping to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the users of the Centres. Your duties will include life guarding, erecting and dismantling sports equipment and ensuring the cleanliness of the Centre and the safety of the general public following all relevant Active Luton’s policies and procedures.

You must have a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification also preferably have experience of dealing with the public, ideally in a leisure environment.

Hours will be worked on a shift rota basis, which include evenings and weekends.
