Active Luton is required [by law] to protect the public funds it administers. It may share information provided to it with other bodies responsible for; auditing, or administering public funds, or where undertaking a public function, in order to prevent and detect fraud.

The Cabinet Office is responsible for carrying out data matching exercises.

Data matching involves comparing computer records held by one body against other computer records held by the same or another body to see how far they match. This is usually personal information. Computerised data matching allows potentially fraudulent claims and payments to be identified. Where a match is found it indicates that there is an inconsistency which requires further investigation. No assumption can be made as to whether there is fraud, error or other explanation until an investigation is carried out.

Active Luton participates in the Cabinet Office’s National Fraud Initiative: a data matching exercise to assist in the prevention and detection of fraud. We are required to provide particular sets of data to the Minister for the Cabinet Office for matching for each exercise, as detailed here.

The use of data by the Cabinet Office in a data matching exercise is carried out with statutory authority under Part 6 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014. It does not require the consent of the individuals concerned under the Data Protection Act 1998.

Data matching by the Cabinet Office is subject to a Code of Practice.

General Manager Inspire: Luton Sports Village

About the job

Active Luton is looking for an experienced General Manager to drive the overall performance of their large flagship Leisure Centre.

 

About you

The successful candidate will need to be commercially focused as well as possessing the ability to implement the delivery of a range of programmes and activities, have the ability to drive income and ensure that the diverse community needs are met. You will need to be a strong leader and mentor of people to ensure that the current team continue to develop and grow, good delegation skills. 

Strong communication skills are also essential with the ability to liaise at a senior level with key stakeholders and partners. You will need to be able to influence and negotiate as well as deliver reports and presentations to a variety of audiences. The ability to write budgets and deliver effective business plans is a must. As well as being able to interpret financial information and data to help to assess risk and to make good decisions. 

You will have previously operated and managed a business either within the private or public sector, and be willing to challenge the status quo to enable you to take the business forward.

You must be prepared to work flexible hours, which will include some weekends. Experience within the leisure sector is not essential. You will be involved in promoting Active Luton’s Recreation Centres in a multicultural environment and helping to ensure the safety and well being of the users of the centers. Your duties will include life guarding, erecting and dismantling sports equipment and ensuring the cleanliness of the Centre and the safety of the general public following all relevant Active Luton’s policies and procedures.

 

About you

You must have a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification also preferably have experience of dealing with the public, ideally in a leisure environment.

 

Application process

Hours will be worked on a 3 week shift rota basis, which include evenings and weekends.
