The PE and sport premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality and breadth of PE and sporting provision offered to pupils. Increased participation in PE and sport is a key goal as is encouraging all pupils to develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels of which they are capable.
The Government and Ofsted require that this work is detailed and documented for inspection. The experienced Active Education team work with schools to help meet the Ofsted requirements. This can take a variety of forms such as:
The team may work with subject leaders and/or senior management to identify the priorities within the school. The aim is to ensure that, given the funding received, the teaching is achieving the maximum amount of impact on pupil outcomes.
Implementing particular aspects of grant conditions may be another area where the Subject Leader requires support. An example of this might be - Are you showing evidence of one of the key requirements, ‘giving pupils the opportunity to develop a healthy, active lifestyle?’
Another area where the team can provide guidance and support is in ensuring a school is able to provide the appropriate evidence that the funding is having an impact. It is important to show that spending is in line with grant conditions.
