Inspire:Luton Sports Village... Lutons most exciting development in 30 years
Inspiring people to live healthier lives
The new name for the town’s most exciting sporting development for 30 years was revealed to local media on Wednesday (25 January).
Inspire: Luton Sports Village, a £26million investment in sport facilities to help people live healthier and more active lives, is being developed by the Luton Learning and Community Partnership Ltd – an independent not-for-profit organisation jointly owned by Luton Borough Council and Wates.
Cllr Hazel Simmons, Leader of Luton Borough Council said: “We want to inspire people to get involved in sport and to live more active, healthier lives. We are committed to addressing the serious health problems that exist in the town. Levels of diabetes and coronary heart disease are far too high in Luton and obesity is a real problem especially amongst our children. “By providing high quality sports and leisure facilities that are affordable, value for money and sustainable, it will help increase participation in physical exercise and active recreation by all ages. Inspire: Luton Sports Village will be a venue where everyone can compete, get active, get involved or just have fun.”
Helen Barnett, Chief Executive, Active Luton said: “Providing accessible and affordable opportunities in physical activity lie at the heart of Active Luton’s ethos and Inspire, with its state of the art facilities, will be no different. This community facility really will have something for everyone catering for all ages and all abilities by providing a range of classes and activities available throughout the day and in the evenings.”
Wates Construction is managing the building works and Active Luton will operate the sports village which is due to open to the public in July 2012. Mark Turnstall, Project Leader, Wates Construction said: “We are delighted to be playing such a key role in the Inspire Luton Sports Village, which will benefit the whole community in Luton. The project is really shaping up now, from the onset we have done our best to ensure the building we deliver to Luton Borough Council is of the highest quality and this is now becoming evident on site.”
Arriva is working in partnership with both Luton Borough Council and Active Luton in promoting this new sports facility for the town. Linsey Frostick, Regional Marketing Manager said: “Arriva is working together with the Council and Active Luton to raise awareness of this superb facility and counting down to the grand opening in July. Using Arriva buses as a means of communicating key events between now and the opening is a great way of accessing thousands of people across the town. “The branded double deck bus will be on the 24 route that serves many areas of Luton, therefore spreading the word far and wide.”Last year Arriva invested over £1.3 million in new buses on the 100, 101 and 102 routes that will connect the sports village with Luton town centre. The service operates up to every 20 minutes, starts early and finishes late, with full disabled access, meaning getting to and from Inspire will be easy by bus for everyone.
Ticket deals for families are already available on Arriva buses and other promotional fares are to be introduced, making travelling to the sports village affordable.
