New Scheme is 10 out of 10 for Farley residents
30th December 2011
Residents in Farley have been given extra motivation to stick to their New Year’s resolutions with a special offer of subsidised sports and exercise sessions in 2012.
Active Luton will be supplying 100 Farley residents with a ‘Ten for Ten’ voucher entitling them to 10 physical activity sessions at Stockwood Park Health Hub for only £1 each time.
The centre includes a newly refurbished 15 station gym, an athletics track and a wide range of fitness and physical activity sessions aimed at residents aged 16 years and over. Valid for three months, the voucher will also entitle the residents to a free personalised health MOT and consultation with a member of Active Luton’s Healthy Lifestyles team.
If you live in Farley and would like a voucher call us on 01582 40 02 72 or alternatively visit Moonbucks Café, 17 Market Square, LU1 5RD. The 100 vouchers will be given away on a first come first serve basis.
The 100 lucky residents will also receive a free ‘Go 4 Less’ card, a Luton Borough Council-funded scheme offering year round discounted rates at Active Luton facilities across the borough.
Funding for the project has come from the Council’s ‘Your Say, Your Way’ project which is all about increasing opportunities for local people to get involved in decision making.
Back in November 2011, Farley residents came together and voted on projects they wanted to see funded in their area, and Active Luton’s ‘Ten for Ten’ voucher project was one of the seven projects that was agreed by the community.
Helen Barnett, Chief Executive of Active Luton, said: “That fact that Farley residents voted for this project at the recent decision day shows that a major priority for the area is improving health and fitness levels.
“We are committed to making this happen for them so I am delighted that we can offer discounts at our great facilities that are just a stone’s throw away from all Farley residents. Stockwood Park Health Hub and our other facilities are open both during the day and evening to work around people’s busy schedules.
“Charging just £1 for each activity actually equates to a saving of £2-4 per person per session so I am confident that demand for these will be high and encourage people to apply for them quickly.”
Cllr Mohammed Ashraf, Portfolio Holder for sports and public health, said: “The ‘Your Say, Your Way’ programme is proving to be a huge success with hundreds of people getting involved and influencing local decision making.
“The great benefit is that the Council and tax payers know that money is being spent where the community really needs and wants it, which in this case is improving the health and wellbeing of the community.”
