No more knives

No More Knives Logo

No more Knives is based on a successful initiative, first run in Nottingham by Notts police service. The premise is to educate young people about the facts of knifes and knife crime, using football as the tool to hook them in. The emphasis of Prevention rather than Cure - as i am sure you're aware, statistics show that young people that carry a knife are far more likely to be a victim of knife crime.

The project will target young lads aged between 14 and 19 years. We have been running coaching sessions coupled with workshops on knife crime for a number of weeks that are preparing teams for a 5 a side tournament and a 11 a side match at Luton FC ground on Kenilworth Road on the 5th of May. These have been taking place in:

  • Hockwell Ring
  • Lewsey Farm
  • Bury Park
  • Marsh Farm
  • Houghton Regis
  • Flitwick

The match on the 5th of May will be against teams from Nottingham and may be televised in some way by Football Focus on BBC1. We are also trying to arrange for one or two premiership footballers to attend.

The football sessions have been run by 'Football for All' with support from local PCSO's.

No more Knives is headed up by Bedfordshire police with support from Active Luton, The Safer Luton Partnership, Beds FA and Luton Town Football in the Community.
