Healthy Lifestyles
Exercise......really is good for you
Keeping fit and healthy, whatever your age is important to help improve your quality of life. There's lots of evidence now to show that regular physical activity can have far reaching benefits. It can help improve confidence and self-esteem, lower blood pressure, reduce risk of heart disease, and help maintain a healthy weight and lots more.
The healthy lifestyles team is responsible for the development, delivery and promotion of initiatives that use sport and physical activity to improve your health and lifestyle. The team is currently commissioned by NHS Luton to provide community based adult weight management and smoking cessation programmes, and through partnerships with other agencies, provide physical activity sessions together with lifestyle advice.
Weight management programmes for adults
Step by Step is a 10-week course promoting physical activity and healthy living. The sessions are fun, sociable and non-stressful and are a great way of learning about physical activity. It also aims to aid weight loss and provide the support mechanisms for developing long-term change.
Health referral - The perfect medicine
There are times when your health can benefit from exercise rather than medicine or pills. The Health Referral programme is accessible through your GP or health professional. This 12-week programme is dependent on individual conditions. Long-term patients are encouraged to live a more self reliant and active lifestyle.
Cardiac rehabilitation
This is a medically approved programme which addresses the physical, mental and social aspects of recovery from a cardiac episode, designed to stabilise, slow down or even reverse the progression of cardiovascular problems.
